Child support guidelines in all 50 states and DC

Child support guidelines differ by state in their income model, deductions and parenting-time rules. The table compares those rules and links to available state pages. A guideline calculation is an estimate; a court or state agency decides the actual order and may depart for legally allowed reasons.

Reading the table

Models, editions and official tools

Checked Oct 15, 2026.

How do you read the state table?

Start with the model and income basis. Gross income is before deductions; net income reflects deductions allowed under that state's guideline. Parenting-time rules show whether time with each parent changes the calculation.

The edition column identifies the governing text and its effective date, not simply the latest website update. “Being verified” means the edition date has not been confirmed against official text, as in Florida and Pennsylvania. Confirmed entries were checked on October 15, 2026.

The official-calculator column distinguishes state tools from this site's calculations. State pages show the calculation line by line; the methodology explains how estimates are presented.

Which states use each model?

Income shares means each parent pays a share of one combined amount. The state pages currently covered here use these models:

  • Income shares, gross income: Indiana, North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, Ohio, Utah and Maryland.
  • Income shares, net income: Florida, Pennsylvania and Illinois.
  • Percentage of the paying parent's income: Texas uses net resources under §154.125; Wisconsin and Nevada use gross income.
  • Percentage of combined income: New York uses gross income.
  • California's own formula: net income, with time share built into §4055.

What changed recently?

Changes can affect a statute, schedule, worksheet or calculator separately. The guideline changelog distinguishes those updates.

  • August 1, 2026: Connecticut's new Child Support and Arrearage Guidelines took effect.
  • April 1, 2026: Ohio's Rule 5101:12-1-17 took effect with the basic schedule and worksheets.
  • March 20, 2026: Illinois revised its Gross to Net Income Conversion Table and Schedule of Basic Obligations amounts.
  • January 1, 2026: Georgia's Parenting Time Adjustment and Low-Income Adjustment replaced earlier deviations under §19-6-15.

Where are official calculators and forms?

The table identifies official calculators published by state agencies or courts. Examples include the Indiana Judicial Branch and Georgia Child Support Commission; Wisconsin's Department of Children and Families publishes a shared-placement worksheet and calculator.

Florida's Department of Revenue does not publish an official calculator and directs parents to search online. That does not mean Florida has no court forms.

Official worksheets and forms come from state court or agency resources. State child support agencies, court self-help centers and legal aid are places to look for free help.

Questions

Questions about state guidelines

Short answers; each state page has its own questions.

Not sure which rule applies?

Worksheet 0 on the home page shows the model, the income basis, the parenting-time rule and the edition for any state.

Open Worksheet 0
Q1Which states use income shares?

Among the states covered here, Florida, Indiana, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, Illinois, Virginia, Ohio, Utah and Maryland use income shares. Some start with gross income and others with net income.

Q2Which states use a percentage of income?

Texas, Wisconsin and Nevada use a percentage of the paying parent's income. New York instead uses a percentage of combined income.

Q3How often do child support guidelines change?

Timing varies by state and by component. Ohio Revised Code §3119.021 requires schedule and self-sufficiency reserve updates every four years; Texas §154.061 requires annual tax charts.

Q4Which state has the highest child support?

These comparisons do not establish a highest-paying state because the formulas use different income bases and parenting-time rules. Compare calculator estimates using the same income and parenting-time assumptions rather than a state ranking.
