Disclaimer and terms

The amounts on this site are estimates under each state's child support guideline. They are not legal advice, and they are not an order. The court or the state child support agency decides the actual amount.

Who decides the amount

The court or the state child support agency. A guideline amount is where they start; the worksheet filed in the case takes priority over any figure here.

How the numbers are checked

Estimates, not orders

A guideline amount is where a court or agency starts. The law in every state lets the decision-maker order a different amount for reasons it lists, and the result depends on evidence the calculator does not see: verified income, expenses, the parenting schedule and agreements between the parents.

Where a state publishes its own calculator, the state page links to it first. Its result, and the worksheet filed in the case, take priority over any figure here.

What this site is not

ChildSupport Today is not a law firm, a lawyer referral service, a government agency or a court. Using the site does not create a lawyer-client relationship. For a review of a specific case, the state agency, a court self-help center, legal aid, a mediator or an attorney can help.

Accuracy and changes

State guidelines change. Each page shows the edition it follows and the date of the last check, and the site lists changes on the changes page. Errors can happen despite the checks described on the methodology page; the site is provided as is, without warranty.
