About ChildSupport Today

ChildSupport Today is an independent reference site. It explains how each US state calculates child support under its own guideline and shows the calculation line by line, with the section of the law next to each step.

Who runs the site

ChildSupport Today is not a law firm, a government agency or a court, and it does not represent either parent. It does not file papers, set support or give legal advice about a specific case.

The pages are not reviewed by an attorney. Accuracy is checked a different way: against the official text of each state's guideline and against the state's own worked examples, as described on the methodology page.

How the pages are written

The texts are written by AI from saved facts: quotes from statutes, court rules and state agency pages, each with its address and the date it was read. Code checks every number in a text against those facts, and a page that fails the check is not published.

Each state page shows the law it follows, the edition in effect (or "being verified" when the date is not yet confirmed) and the date of the last check. Changes to state guidelines are listed on the changes page.

How the site is paid for

Some pages link to services such as form libraries and co-parenting apps. These are partner links: the site may earn a fee when someone uses them. They are marked, open in a new tab and are placed away from the calculation result. Partners have no say in the formulas or the texts.
